Rushing, F. M. -- Paroled at Vicksburg
Francis Marion Rushing enlisted with CO. H, on April 24, 1862 at Jackson MS., in Hinds County. His enlistment was for three years or until the conclusion of the war. He participated in the battles of Corinth,  Iuka, Tupelo and the Siege of Vicksburg, as well as several other battles & skirmishes. He was taken prisoner at Vicksburg & was paroled on July 8th, 1863, & sent home. He re-enlisted and returned to active duty with CO. H now called the 38th Mississippi Mounted Infantry. After the surrender he was paroled on May 14th, 1865. The following photo of Mr. Rushing & his family was taken many years after the war, and was provided to us by one of his descendants Mr. Kelly Allen.

Rushing, J. (John) A. (C.)
James A. Rushing also enlisted in CO. H on April 24, 1862 in Jackson MS. with the same enlistment terms as his brother Francis (above). He was paroled on May 12th 1865 after the surrender. James moved to Texas & is buried in Smith Family Cemetery in Athens, Tx. It is my understanding that he does not have a soldiers' head stone to honor his Confederate service, but one is being ordered.

Rushing, T. E.
Thomas E. Rushing also enlisted in CO. H on April 24th. From Sept. to Oct. 1862 Thomas was at home due to illness. After returning to active duty he was killed by accident on the march from Abbeville to Grendad, MS. on the 6th day of Dec., 1862 he was 33 years old. His burial place is unknown, and he left behind a wife Mary Ann Rushing who was paid by the Treasury Department of the Confederacy to the sum of $79.20, apparently back pay. Ms. Rushing did not receive the money until after Oct. 1863.
